He loves outstanding food, serene getaway spots, soothing music, fine wine (of course) and, his wife, Renee.

If you’re keen on finding good quality wine at an excellent price – this is a man you need to know!

The Upper Crust Restaurant in Cape Town for 21 years. Currently MD and co owner  of Wine Concepts (Fine Wine merchants and Wine Consultants since 1998).  Write a weekly wine column for iafrica.com.

Nahyeeni Lodge on Inhaca Island (Mozambique) and my cottage in the Cederberg!

What book(s) are you reading?

Rescue by Anita Shreve and The Strandveld by Marius Diemont.

Sweet or Savoury?

Both!

Favourite celebration?

New Years Eve under the stars in the Cederberg!

What do you never go to a party without?

Good mood and a corkscrew!

Do you remember your first sip of champagne?

Not really but I do know it was more than a  sip!

When do you usually drink champagne?

Sunsets!!!!

Do you keep champagne corks from special occasions?

We recycle the corks and keep the muselet!

The perfect accompaniment to bubbly?

Served in antique flutes with  smoked salmon and good company.

Most memorable champagne moment?

10 years ago at my wine club, Gogga’s, we opened a magnum of 1973 Dom Perignon. The finest Champagne I have ever tasted and still have the empty bottle in my cellar!
