About

A story in the making… from passion to profession.

Genevieve MCC founder Melissa Genevieve Nelsen spent years deliberating over the creation of Genevieve MCC.

Melissa’s mother always encouraged her to be uncompromising and to expand her vision.  Melissa once had her sights set on taking to the skies but was unsure how to pursue this aspiration.  Following an inspiring chat to her mother she decided to become a pilot.  These days, whilst not averse to flying, Melissa prefers to keep her feet firmly on the ground (favouring the countryside!)

“It was from this encouragement to think big that Genevieve was created. If I live to enjoy it, why not make it?” Melissa shares.

A few years ago Melissa moved to a boutique wine farm in Bot River and found a small beautiful pocket of Chardonnay.  Determined to make unsurpassed quality sparkling wine, from the outset, and to continue to do so each year Melissa attained the  guidance of the renowned Gower wine making family making Melissa’s sparkling objectives with this wine achievable.

5500 bottles of Genevieve MCC were produced in 2008.  Extensive time on the lees has ensured character and style.  The inaugural 1500 bottles have just been released after 18 months on the lees whilst the next batch will lie for a further time on lees creating a benchmark for further vintages to come.

Why the name Genevieve?
Melissa’s parents spent much of their time in France with an extraordinary love for the radiance and energy of Paris.  This ardor to the name lead to the election of Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris, as Melissa’s middle name with the aspiration that she would come to epitomise the same exuberance and uncompromising optimism evoked by France’s City of Light.
