Genevieve MCC end of year 2016 news

Hope your year has made memories worth celebrating and you’re ready to get 2017 on the go!! After the holidays!

A quick note if you need to stock up last minute!: Melissa@genevievemcc.co.za

Then some end of year news of what we’ve been up to in 2016:
We’ve had a busy one, exports growing now to Belgium and Germany with reorders to the Netherlands and Germany, Genevieve MCC is slowing being able to touch others peoples celebrations and the love for Méthode Cap Classique around the world.

A couple of highlights this year have been the purchasing of a property in Bot River, after quite some time searching for the right spot to create a home for Genevieve MCC we’ve found one, it’ll be a slow progress of renovations and planting vineyards but we’d love you to be part of it and will keep you updated when we’ve moved there and can all get together and celebrate!

The 2012 Genevieve MCC was released earlier this year and whenever I sit and taste and make tasting notes, my vintages become a character, the 2012 is my soldier, it stands up right, expresses itself very cleanly, has great structure and is showing the integrity that it was made with. With 4 years on the lees, it’s still vibrant and is going to mature beautifully for those that manage to hide some away for a few years.

Then the other highlight was being able to release a Zero Dosage vintage this year. 2012 was an exceptional harvest for me and with the first press juice coming in, decided to set some aside and see how it would evolve with even less intervention, adding no sugar after second fermentation and left on the lees for 4 years and then some decent cork time. It’s a little rock star!

Zero dosage Champagnes/Méthode Cap Classiques are referred to by some winemakers as “a champagne without make up.” It is where we get to truly taste the wine.

Comparing the two gives you an idea of the influence of dosage on MCC. The absence of dosage allows the fundamental qualities of the wine and its terroir to shine through more clearly.

All the best for your festive season and cheers to you and may we ching our glasses together often in 2017!

Bot River Spring Weekend 5th & 6th September 2015.

We’ve all been patiently waiting for the sun to come out and play and see fit to celebrate the change of season with our annual Bot River Spring Weekend.

Bot River Spring Weekend 2015

I’ll be pouring the latest vintage of Genevieve MCC 2011 at Luddite Wines this year. A family affair sure to entertain and while away your time in Bot River. This year we’re adding an option of oysters to your tasting of Genevieve MCC, why because we love oysters and well sometimes you need to enjoy a little extra delectable something to bring out the joie de vivre!

Penny Verburg of Luddite Wines has been cooking up a storm; your lunch treats to be enjoyed with a glass of Luddite Shiraz or Chenin made by the great man Niels Verburg. I’ve included the menu in her words to give you a big yummy picture of what she’s been preparing.

“ I’ve been beavering away in the kitchen and have the following on offer for the weekend:
Old fashioned pork pies served with a side salad and home made piccalilli
Selection of Richard Bosman’s charcuterie, home made bread, pates and farm butter
Vegetarian mushroom pate, breads, salad and local cheeses
The pantry is bulging with stuff grown and made on the farm: jams, marmalades, pickles, olive oil and yummy lemon and granadilla curd!”

And then to top it all off we thought we’d add some more colour to the day with some great local artists showing off their wares.

Wendy Voogt will be exhibiting her paintings, John the Potter will have some pottery on sale, Jo Elkin will be selling her goods and lastly there will be a washing line full of Sue Heyns beautiful patchwork quilts

Time: Saturday / Sunday: 10:00 -15:00

See you this weekend!

Melissa , Penny & Niels!

PS: Brush up on your 101 to TASTING oysters!

Oyster tasting is similar to wine tasting. You’re trying to absorb and appreciate the nuances in flavor and texture imparted by climatic conditions. The culmination of these effects is what oyster aficionados call “meroir.”

The 6 S’s of Pro Oyster Tasting

#1 SEE: Feast with your eyes! Study the shell, shape, and color.

#2 SMELL: It should smell sea-breezy and sweet, not fishy at all.

#3 SIP: Sip the oyster liquor to get a sense of the salinity.

#4 SLURP: Shimmy the oyster meat loose, tilt the flat edge of the shell to your lips and slurp! Don’t discard the oyster liquor (faux pas).

#5 SAVOR: Chew a few times to get the full body taste; notice the progression from nose (salty) to body (sweet/flavors) to finish (lingering aroma).

#6 SHARE: Flip the shell over, discuss your impressions with friends and enjoy Genevieve MCC!
